  • Fellow of Canadian Society for Civil Engineering (FCSCE) (2017), Canadian Society for Civil Engineering Honor Awarded to CSCE members who have attained civil engineering excellence and who have contributed actively towards the progress of their profession

  • Canada Research Chair in Wind Engineering (Tier II) (renewal period) (2017), Natural Sciences and Engineering Research Council of Canada (NSERC) Prize / Award Awarded for exceptional emerging researchers, acknowledged by their peers as having the potential to lead in their field.

  • Bikila Award (2016) for professional excellence by Bikila Award, a Toronto based community organization (Bikilaaward.org).

  • High end foreign expert status award: Tongji University awarded the nominee a guest professorship position (2016-2018) with high end foreign expert status in the College of Civil

  • Ontario Early Researcher Award (2013): The goal of Early Researcher Award Program is described as "to improve Ontario’s ability to attract and retain the best and brightest research talent".

  • Canada Research Chair (CRC) in Wind Engineering (Tier II) (2012): “Tenable for five years and renewable once, are for exceptional emerging researchers, acknowledged by their peers as having the potential to lead in their field.” http://www.chairs-chaires.gc.ca/.

  • Chi Epsilon, a civil engineering honor society, faculty advisor award (2011): Dr Bitsuamlak received this award from FIU Chi-Epsilon chapter in August 2011, the chapter has more than 125 active student and faculty

  • Florida International University’s World Ahead Faculty in 2010: “World Ahead means going beyond what is Taking the opportunity you are given and doing something great with it. The words are as much a part of what you are today as what you aspire to be tomorrow.   • CAREER - National Science Foundation ($ 400,219, Jan 2009- Jan 2014): “The Faculty Early Career Development (CAREER) Program is a Foundation-wide activity that offers the National Science Foundation's most prestigious awards in support of the early career- development activities of those teacher-scholars who most effectively integrate research and education within the context of the mission of their organization”  http://www.nsf.gov

  • Bitsuamlak’s students have also received prestigious awards such as Ontario Trillium Award (1), Ontario Queen Elizabeth II Scholarship (1), Alan Davenport Wind Engineering Excellence Award (3), NSERC IPS (1), NSERC USRA (1), MITACS Accelerated PhD fellowship (1), and CSCE 2016 conference best paper award (1).
