Bantrel Award in Design and Industrial Practice

This award is presented to a Canadian citizen or a resident of Canada for innovative design or production activities accomplished in Canada. The activities may have resulted in a significant achievement in product or process design, small or large company innovation, or multidisciplinary design-directed research or production. The achievement will relate to the practice of chemical engineering and/or industrial chemistry whether in research and development, process implementation, entrepreneurialism, innovation, production or some combination of these. It may be via a well-known, long-standing reputation for translating chemical engineering principles into design and industrial practice which contributes to the profession as a whole. (More)

Distinguished University Professor

Established in 2005, The Distinguished University Professor Award recognizes sustained excellence in scholarship over a substantial career at Western. Scholarship is broadly defined to include research, teaching and service to the community. Thus, this award is not a recognition solely of research excellence, which is the purpose of the Hellmuth Prize, nor is it a recognition solely of teaching excellence, which is the purpose of the Pleva Award. The Distinguished University Professorship will recognize sustained excellence as a complete scholar. (More)

The Edward G. Pleva Award for Excellence in Teaching

The University Awards for Excellence in Teaching were created in 1980-81. In 1987, the awards were named in honor of Edward Gustav Pleva, Western's first geography teacher in 1938. Dr. Pleva was Head of the Department of Geography from the time it was established in 1948 until 1968. He has received a number of teaching awards for his contribution to the development of modern geographical education in Canada at all levels. His special area of interest is the Great Lakes region. Engineering Institute of Canada Awards

Faculty Scholars Award

Established in 2005, the Faculty Scholars Award recognizes significant recent scholarly achievements in teaching or research. Nominated by faculty deans and selected by the Faculty Selection committee chaired by the Provost, the recipients have an international presence in their discipline and are considered all-round scholars. Winners hold the title “Faculty Scholar” for two years and receive $7,000 each year for scholarly activities, as well as receiving a citation. (More)

The purpose of the Fellowship in Teaching Innovation is to encourage faculty members to pursue teaching innovations at Western University. Teaching innovation projects may take many forms, such as initiatives involving the novel incorporation of educational technology into classroom settings or developing new strategies for student engagement. The Fellowship exists primarily, but not exclusively, to support undergraduate and professional school teaching at the University, matching Western's commitment to the highest standards and quality of undergraduate education. Harvey Rosen Award

This award recognizes the best paper published in “Ozone: Science & Engineering” for the two-years preceding the award. The award is presented by the International Ozone Association (IOA). Founded in 1973, the IOA serves as the central, worldwide gathering and distributing point on ozone information, bringing together scientists, engineers, systems designers, technologists, equipment manufacturers, and end users to share their experiences and research data on ozone and other related oxygen compounds. The World Congress is an opportunity for experts from all over to the world to present and discuss ways to benefit human health protection, industrial manufacture and conditioning, and medical therapy. Hellmuth Prize for Achievement in Research

The Hellmuth Prizes for Achievement in Research are named in honour of Bishop Isaac Hellmuth, who founded Western University in 1878. There are two such prizes offered annually, one in the area broadly defined as the natural sciences and engineering (research that would be supported by NSERC or MRC) and one in the social sciences and humanities (research that would in general fall under the mandate of SSHRC). The Marilyn Robinson Award for Excellence in Teaching

In 1996-97, the award for excellence in teaching was established at Western to be awarded based on evidence of outstanding contributions in the area of classroom, laboratory, or clinical instruction. Marilyn Robinson was an enthusiastic and inspirational lecturer who was much loved and respected by both colleagues and students. In her roles as Assistant Professor in Physiology and Coordinator of the Educational Development Office, she helped raise the profile of teaching at Western. (More)

Royal Society of Canada

The Royal Society of Canada, The Canadian Academy of the Sciences and Humanities, is the senior national body of distinguished Canadian scientists and scholars. Its primary objective is to promote learning and research in the arts and sciences. The Society consists of approximately 1,700 Fellows: men and women from across the country who are selected by their peers for outstanding contributions to the natural and social sciences and in the humanities.
