Why did you choose Integrated Engineering?

I chose Integrated engineering because it is the most diverse option within engineering. Many of my peers who chose Integrated are planning to complete a dual degree with Ivey. I am on the opposite side. I am on the opposite side. I knew business was not an interest of mine, but I loved that Integrated let me pursue all my interests in engineering. Integrated is an incredible opportunity for you to customize your engineering degree and combine many interests into a single degree. Anyone who is interested in multiple areas within or even outside of engineering should definitely consider it!

Why did you choose Western Engineering?

I love Western because of the feeling I get every time I walk on campus. I love the way everything looks cohesive and feels like a little world within the bigger city of London. I loved the Engineering buildings and how they were all unique, with all sorts of places that made engineering feel special. From the UES, to the Tim Hortons, to the classrooms, everything feels familiar and welcoming. I got an amazing feeling from the open houses and followed my gut instinct to where I am today!

Favourite Place to Study on Campus?

I love studying in the DaVinci lounge in SEB because there are couches, tables, and Tim Hortons! I like having the background noise and the relaxed environment. I also can usually find someone I know in there if I need any help with homework!

Favourite first-year courses?

In first-year I loved Design, Linear Algebra and Business. I loved Linear Algebra because it is all about puzzle solving and I love that kind of thing. I loved Design and Business because of the class environment. I am a people person and I get easily bored sitting in class and listening to a professor talk. I loved my experience in design because I got to work in a team and actually produce a project I was passionate about. I loved the feeling of working to a big end goal. I also loved business because of how engaging the class was. I was not a huge fan of the content, which is why I did not pursue Ivey, but the way my professor taught made it easy to pay attention and contribute.

Why Engineering?

I actually almost chose an entirely different program at an entirely different university. It was down to the last few days and I was really confused about whether I wanted to pursue a more technical degree in maths and sciences, or follow my more artistic passions towards music, English and languages. I ended up deciding on Engineering because of my love for problem-solving and my desire to make an impact in some part of the world. Engineers design things that make the world a better place. I wanted to not just have ideas, but also have the technical background to make those ideas a reality. Even though the liberal arts had come quite easily to me and maths and sciences were sometimes a struggle if it didn’t immediately click, I knew that it would be worth it to push through and so I chose Engineering. I am so happy I did, especially since the integrated engineering program allows me to focus on what I like and customize my degree to whatever I want it to be.
