Why Western Engineering?

I chose Western Engineering because of the excellent dual degree program and the common first year. I realized that engineering was the perfect fit for me because my favourite class in high school was Calculus. I love engineering because I can put my knowledge to work and solve real problems that can benefit so many people. Western has a tremendous amount of resources that allow me to achieve anything I believe I can.

Why Civil Engineering?

I was deciding between Green Process and Environmental Civil. I chose Civil because I realized that in first year my favourite course was Statics and I found myself wanting to do the assignments and homework. I realized that it makes me happy and I find great joy in the successful completion of a difficult truss analysis!

What as your residence experience like?

Last year I lived in Perth Hall on the leadership floor. I loved Perth because I was in the double room, but the way it was laid out, we were able to socialize together or work by ourselves. The hybrid-style is a benefit because it’s the freedom of suite-style but the ease and social life of traditional. Although my roommates were not in engineering, I enjoyed it because I was able to take a break from ‘engineering’ and not talk about school work!

How do you handle school-related stress?

I am quite an easily stressed person, but the engineering community has made it easy for me to understand that everyone is working through it together. Western has so much support that you’re never alone with your problems. The biggest realization I had was that I am not the first person to struggle with this, nor will I be the last. I use this to find help and then give help when one of my colleagues are struggling.

Favourite study spot on campus?

I love booking a room in the new Amit Chakma Engineering building, it makes it super easy to get a group together and distance yourself from distractions. My other favourite place to study by myself is the Grad Club in the basement of Middlesex. It is very quiet during the day and has a great atmosphere.
