Western Engineering Canadian Engineering Grand Challenges Champions Program
At Western Engineering, we believe that education is more than just attending classes - it’s about finding your purpose in life, exploring opportunities you care about, and making a positive change in your community and Canada.
The Canadian Engineering Grand Challenges (CEGCs) are a set of ambitious goals identified to address some of the most pressing societal, environmental, and technological issues facing Canada and the world. These challenges aim to inspire innovation, interdisciplinary collaboration, and leadership among engineers. They align with global sustainability goals while addressing Canada's unique needs.
- Resilient infrastructure
- Access to affordable, reliable, and sustainable energy
- Access to safe water in all communities
- Inclusive, safe, and sustainable cities
- Inclusive and sustainable industrialization
- Access to affordable and inclusive STEM education
These challenges encourage engineers to think broadly about their role in shaping a sustainable and inclusive future.
The Western Engineering CEGC Champions program is a unique opportunity for students to engage with these challenges and highlight the ways they are making a difference.
Students will engage with a theme area of the Canadian Engineering Grand Challenges through curricular, co-curricular, and extra-curricular activities. Then engage in critical reflection on their learning experiences and impact.
How it works
- Complete modules 1-3 of the CEGCs e-campus course
- Choose one of the CEGC theme areas and engage in at least two different learning experiences related to it (experiences can be curricular, co-curricular, extra-curricular, volunteer, co-op, or research)
- Describe your experience and reflect on these learning experiences using the DEAL Model in a three-minute thesis (3MT) format.
-
Complete the linked form and upload your video presentation.
- Your submission will be evaluated by Western Engineering Faculty and your video may be hosted on our page as a Western Engineering CEGC Champion.
Who is eligible
