Yesterday, Hydro One announced the recipients of its Women in Engineering Scholarships. The scholarship, part of a greater collection called the “One Awards”, is a tangible example of Hydro One’s commitment to increasing the number of women in engineering as each recipient receives both a financial benefit as well as an employment opportunity.

Support for young women wishing to embark on a career in engineering has been a significant priority for Hydro One for well over a decade. Ten Hydro One Women in Engineering Scholarships were given out this year, with three of them going to Western Engineering students.

Each recipient receives $5,000 towards their studies and are offered a paid 12-16 month work-term at Hydro One.

Western Engineering’s 2022 Women in Engineering Scholarship recipients include:

  • Aarushi Sritharakumar – Electrical Engineering
  • Jadyn Powell – Electrical Engineering
  • Jessica Ayers – Electrical Engineering

Second-year electrical engineering student Jessica Ayers reflected the impact of winning this award with Hydro One and what it means as she develops her professional career.

"It means a lot to be recognized by a company like Hydro One which values both diversity and innovation. I am so grateful to be given the opportunity and assistance to develop my professional engineering skills. It is a great privilege to win this award alongside such a talented cadre of young women."

Western Engineering is proud to celebrate the achievements of these young women on their well-deserved scholarships and would like to thank Hydro One for its continued support of Women in Engineering.

In addition, Hydro One is a partner of the Women in Engineering Consortium. Among the consortium are four member universities, Western, Waterloo, Ontario Tech and Ryerson. Through this partnership all members work together to increase the interest of young women in engineering with resources for students, educators, and parents.
