Frequently Asked Questions
Q: 100th Anniversary Poem
A: Winning Poems from the 100th Anniversary Poem Contest
Q: I received my Masters/PhD from Western Enginering, how do I apply for the Iron Ring obligation?
A: If you have received a Masters or PhD in Engineering from Western University, or another accredited university, and your Bachelors is from a university outside of Canada, you must apply as a Mature Candidate. Please see above for the Mature Candidate application process.
Q: I am licensed as a Professional Engineer in another province in Canada, does that mean I am eligible to participate in the Calling of an Engineer Obligation Ceremony?
A: Yes. If you received a provincial Professional Engineering license from another province and/or this regulatory body recognizes your academic credentials to practice engineering in Canada, submit your membership and/or letter along with your application.
Q: I am an Engineer in Training (EIT) with PEO. Am I eligible to apply for the iron ring obligation?
A: Being an EIT does not satisfy any of the eligibility criteria so you cannot apply with an EIT membership. However, you may be eligible based on Criteria 1 or Criteria 3.
Q: How does the new PEO standard of cancelling their EIT program impact my application and would I have to meet the experience requirement before I can apply for credential assessment with PEO?
A: No. In order to apply for the Calling of an Engineering, you do not need to meet the experience requirement, but you do need to have your credential academic assessment confirmed. PEO completes your evaluation to determine if the candidate meets the academic criteria (accredited by CEB of equivalent). Once an applicant receives a letter confirmation from PEO, or other licensed Canadian Provincial engineering regulatory body, that they meet the academic criteria, candidates must submit their letter to apply for the Iron Ring Obligation Ceremony.
Q: I am a limited licence holder with PEO, am I eligible to apply for the iron ring obligation?
A: No, limited engineering licensee holders are not eligible to take the iron ring obligation. It is the view of the Corporation of the Seven Wardens that the qualifications required for limited licences are not equivalent to those required by the Canadian Engineering Accreditation Board (CEAB), and thus do not meet the corporation’s eligibility criteria as set out in the Guidelines for Eligibility.
Q: Can someone else submit my application, on my behalf?
A: No. If you are interested in participating, you need to apply yourself to take the iron ring obligation.
Q: What if my Guest Ringer does not have their Iron Ring or lost it?
A: Have them reapply EARLY to receive a replacement before the ceremony. See instructions below. All Guest Ringers must have been obligated in the past.
