Can I come to Canada to start a program in September?

Only students with a study permit approved before March 18 are currently eligible to enter Canada to begin a program of study. Before booking your flight, you will need to check the latest travel restrictions exemptions to determine if travelling into Canada is possible. If that changes, we will update our information immediately.

Can I begin my program online in September without a study permit?

Yes, you can register and start your program online, however, starting your program without a valid study permit may affect Post Graduate Work Permit (PGWP). Immigration Canada (IRCC) has recently revised the eligibility policy for PGWP. If you submit your application for the study permit before September 15, 2020 and start your studies online in Fall 2020, the time spent on studying online from outside Canada (until December 31, 2020) will be counted towards the length of the PGWP (contingent on an eventual approval). The current policy still requires the completion of at least 50% of your program in Canada. For more information about Postgraduate Work Permits, please contact Western International at iesc@uwo.ca

I am currently in Canada and have a valid study permit (or have been approved for one) Can I begin my program in September?

Yes, you can register and start your program. All graduate courses in the Fall term will be offered online, however, if you are in Canada with a valid study permit, the online format will not affect your Post Graduate Work Permit (PGWP) eligibility. For more information about Postgraduate Work Permits, please contact Western International at iesc@uwo.ca.

If I start my program in Fall 2020 remotely, and I am still unable to join the program in person in January 2021, how will this affect my program?

The program requires you to join in person once the travel restrictions are lifted. However, if you are not able to join the program in person in January 2021 due to continued travel restrictions, you can continue your program remotely. The graduate programs in the Faculty of Engineering will offer online courses in the Winter 2021 term and in the Summer 2021 if needed to ensure that students who cannot come to campus will be able to complete the MEng program remotely. However, it may affect the eligibility for Postgraduate Work Permit. For more information about Postgraduate Work Permits, please contact Western International at iesc@uwo.ca

Will I be required to provide official/final transcripts before I can register in the program?

You will be obliged to provide official/final transcripts, but Western can extend the deadline by 90 days to accommodate disruptions in the production of transcripts. Electronic transcript submission is acceptable, however, it must be emailed directly to Western from Institution’s Registrar Office. The email address to directly submit electronic transcripts is: gradapps@uwo.ca.
