Academic Accommodation

Academic Accommodation

Students with disabilities may arrange for academic accommodations at Western. An academic accommodation is an alteration in the usual conditions under which students perform academic tasks. These conditions may be changed through accommodation if the changes do not remove an essential course or program requirement. For a more detailed explanation, please see the website of Academic Support & Engagement

Students with disabilities may request academic accommodations through Services for Students with Disabilities.

The Western University Policy on Academic Accommodation for Students with Disabilities summarizes the process of requesting, granting, and making arrangements for academic accommodation and details the responsibilities of those involved in the process.

Accessible Education

Accessible Education (AE) is a confidential service to support graduate and undergraduate students through their academic program. AE works with graduate students and Associate Chair (Graduate) in their programs to ensure that appropriate academic accommodations to program requirements are arranged.   AE services include individual counselling, alternative formatted literature, accessible campus transportation, learning strategy instruction, and assistive technology instruction. It is important that you register with AE as soon as possible after accepting an offer of admission and meet with an AE counsellor to discuss relevant graduate program accommodations. If accommodation (may be temporary) needs arise during your course of study, contact AE for a confidential appointment with an AE Counsellor.

AE can be contacted by calling 519-661-2147 or emailing aew@uwo.ca. AE is part of the Student Development Centre on the 4th floor of Western Student Services Building (WSSB). More information about Accessible Education can be found on their website.
