Min Xia recognized by IEEE with Outstanding Young Engineer Award

Min Xia, a professor in the department of mechanical and materials engineering, has been awarded the 2024 IEEE Instrumentation and Measurement Society Outstanding Young Engineer Award

This accolade recognizes his expertise in AI and digital technologies that has fostered extensive collaborations with academic and industrial partners to address global challenges in the digital transformation of various sectors.

“Receiving this award is an incredible honour and a testament to the dedication of my team and collaborators in pushing the boundaries of what AI and digital technologies can achieve in future manufacturing and clean energy systems,” says Xia, who is also the director of the Machine Intelligence Laboratory (MIN Lab) at Western University.

Throughout his career, Xia has led 15 research projects with funding exceeding $19 million CAD and has published over 90 papers in top-tier journals and conferences. His work has earned him a place among the top 2% of scientists worldwide, with nine of his papers being ESI Highly Cited Papers. 

In addition to his research, Xia serves as the Editor-in-Chief of the Journal of Mechatronic Systems and Control and holds editorial positions in several other prestigious journals including IEEE TII, IEEE TIM, and Journal of Intelligent Manufacturing.

The Outstanding Young Engineer Award is one of six annual awards presented by the IEEE Instrumentation and Measurement Society. It honours an outstanding young member under the age of 38 who has distinguished themselves through technical achievements, exemplary service to the society, or a combination of both.

The award focuses on recognizing the individual behind the achievements, highlighting their contributions during their early career. 

Xia’s contributions to the field and his dedication to advancing technology have made him a deserving recipient of this distinguished award.
