On August 30, 2018, the Western Engineering community came together to celebrate and honour former Western Engineering Dean Andrew Hrymak for his nine years of service to the Faculty of Engineering.

As part of the celebration, an Engineering Gold Medal will be named in Hrymak’s honour. Close to $50,000 was raised – almost double the anticipated target – thanks to faculty, staff, alumni, advisory council members and student leaders.

“This number alone speaks volumes to the impact Andy has made on the Faculty during his time here,” said Civil and Environmental Engineering Professor Michael Bartlett.

Speaking remarks were given by Acting Dean Gregory Kopp, Professor Hesham El Naggar and Professor Michael Bartlett to recognize Hrymak’s vast accomplishments and visionary leadership since joining the Faculty in July, 2009.

Over the next few months, Hrymak will work with staff to establish which program the Gold Medal will be granted to. The student recipient of the Gold Medal will also receive a monetary award towards starting their career.

Western Engineering wishes Hrymak well in his new role as Western University’s Provost and Vice-President (Academic) and looks forward to witnessing how he will carry forward his vision for the School.
