The Sharon A. Ling Award of Excellence is presented annually to a Western Engineering employee who has gone above and beyond in support of academic, research, innovation, public service or the administrative missions of the Faculty of Engineering.

As the letters of nomination for the 2016 award began to pour in, the words supportive, dedicated, patient and organized appeared over and over in support of one particular staff member: Claire Naudi.  Described as positive and hard-working, Naudi personifies all of the qualities of an exemplary staff member.  Since joining the Mechanical and Materials Engineering Department in 2011, she has continued to go far beyond her assigned duties to assist in other department and faculty activities.

“Claire provides top-notch support to the department,” said Tony Straatman, Professor and Chair, Mechanical and Materials Engineering Department. “No matter the day, Claire is friendly, positive and always willing to share a moment.”

Co-workers agree that Naudi stands out as a valued and dynamic staff member who is always willing to listen, to help and to take action.

“I am honoured to be nominated for this award,” said Naudi. “I’m humbled by the outstanding support I’ve received.”

Naudi counts the personal friendship she’s built with her colleagues as one of the best things about working for the Faculty of Engineering: “This is such an inclusive environment,” she explained. “MME has been very welcoming from day one. I truly enjoy coming to work every day.”

She will receive the award at the Annual Faculty & Staff Awards Luncheon on June 13.
