Michael Andrade, BESc’86, is passionate about driving technology forward, in the workplace and beyond.

Currently the Executive Vice President, Diversified Markets at Celestica, Andrade is responsible for implementing the strategic vision and execution of the company’s aerospace, defense, industrial, healthcare and energy businesses. He is also an active leader in the community, providing strategic counsel in roles such as Technology and Communications Chair with the United Way Toronto Campaign Cabinet (2012 to present) and Junior Achievement of Central Ontario Board of Directors (2009-2012).

He is also the recipient of the 2015 L.S. Lauchland Engineering Alumni Medal.

“We are honoured to present Michael with this prestigious award,” said Andrew Hrymak, Dean of Western Engineering. “He is a most deserving recipient of this recognition for his leadership and engineering accomplishments in the area of technology commercialization.”

A strategic thinker and problem solver, Andrade started his career in 1986 with technology roles at IBM Canada before joining Celestica’s original management team in 1994.

Throughout his tenure with Celestica, Andrade has held various positions including:

  • Celestica’s first Business Development Director (1994);
  • Senior Vice President (2003);
  • Senior Vice President, Strategic Business Development (2007);
  • Senior Vice President and General Manager of North America (2008);
  • Executive Vice President, Diversified Markets (2012);
  • Keynote speaker, panel member and roundtable participant at multiple industry events.

In 2014, Andrade played an instrumental role in establishing Refined Manufacturing Acceleration Process (ReMAP), an industry-led network focused on technology introduction. ReMAP offers new capabilities in manufacturing, research, development, product and process design that are currently not available elsewhere in North America.

Andrade also remains very active with Western University. He has established the Andrade Family Engineering Award to recognize two full-time undergraduate students in second or third year of mechanical engineering who have demonstrated volunteer and leadership skills through participate in university life and in November he will join the Advisory Council fro Western Engineering (ACWE).

The L.S. Lauchland Engineering Alumni Medal

The L. S. Lauchland Engineering Alumni Medal was established in 1979 to mark the retirement of Professor Stuart Lauchland, founding member of the Department of Engineering Science at Western, and past-president of APEO. 


Selected by a volunteer committee of Western Engineering alumni and friends, Michael Andrade, BESc’86, will receive the alumni award during Homecoming 2015 at the Engineering Alumni & Friends Reception on Saturday, Sept. 26 at the Hilton Hotel, starting at 6:00 p.m.
