Computer Requirements

Computer Specifications

Since all year 2 and year 3 will be delivered online in the 2020-21 academic year, it is mandatory for all mechanical engineering students to be able to run SolidWorks on their personal computer.

The recommended hardware specifications are posted here, but in general terms, any configuration that allows SolidWorks to run will be deemed acceptable. However, since the hardware specifications impacts to a large extent the SolidWorks experience, it is strongly suggested to test how SolidWorks runs on the personal computer in advance of the start of the academic year. Please note that the inability to be able to complete the required course deliverables involving the use of SolidWorks will attract mark penalties that could lead to course failure.

Software for Undergraduate Students

There are two main sources of software for undergraduate students: ITG/Western Engineering webstore and WTS/university website. Please note that each software has specific eligibility requirements such that it may or may not be available for undergraduate mechanical engineering students. This being the case, for software required/suggested in MME courses, please discuss the matter further with the appropriate course instructor.
