Why Western Engineering?

I chose Western Engineering because I was interested in the common first year, as well as the many dual degree options. I was pretty certain that I wanted to go into chemical engineering but I still wanted to explore the other disciplines and take other classes, and I’m glad that Western gave me the opportunity to explore different aspects of all disciplines. I was also very interested in doing a dual degree, which Western has so many options and different paths to choose from!

What do you do in your spare time?

In my spare time I go to the gym, hang out with my friends, listen to music and watch movies! I love getting coffee with my friends or going to the gym after classes!

What was your orientation week experience like as a first year student?

My orientation week as a first-year student was very fun! There were so many different activities each day, both with my residence and engineering, and it was a great way to meet so many people and get to explore campus a bit before classes started!

Why did you choose your specific stream of engineering?

I chose chemical engineering because I have always loved chemistry in highschool and loved that it was a broad degree with many different pathways to choose from! I was mostly interested in the environmental and biochemical side of chemical engineering but was still very interested in the biomedical side as well! I love that chemical engineering can be applied to many industries and that it incorporates many aspects of chemistry and biology as well!

What is your favourite book, movie or TV show?

My favourite TV show is Parks and Recreation!

Who do you look up to/admire and why?

I look up to both of my highschool chemistry teachers! They were both very inspiring and uplifting women that encouraged me to pursue my degree in STEM. They both were very passionate about what they taught and I’m very happy that I had positive female role models in STEM like them!
