1st International Geo-Symposium on Canadian Offshore Wind
16th November 2026, 8:30 - 17:00 – Ottawa (Ontario)
On behalf of the University of Western Ontario (UWO) and the Norwegian Geotechnical Institute (NGI), we would like to invite you to the 1st International Geo-Symposium on Canadian Offshore Wind. The event will take place on Monday 16th November 2026, at the Fairmont Château Laurier, Ottawa. The symposium is also held under the aegis of the International Society for Soil Mechanics and Geotechnical Engineering through technical committee TC209:Offshore Geotechnics.
The symposium theme is ‘From Seabed to Installation: Building Canada’s Offshore Wind Future on Safe Ground’. As momentum builds around offshore wind development in Nova Scotia – one of the world’s most promising emerging offshore wind markets – this event will bring together industry and academia from both Canada and abroad to advance the conversation on the key technical and strategic geo-challenges ahead. The event is intentionally scheduled alongside the Marine Renewables Canada 2026 Conference & Exhibition, offering participants an additional opportunity to connect with the broader marine renewables community.
Why should you be there?
The symposium is a one-day event focused on the geo-disciplines supporting the development of offshore wind in Canada. It will bring together professionals from industry and academia, including developers, marine contractors, designers, regulators, and researchers. While centered on Canada's emerging offshore wind market in Nova Scotia, the symposium will feature speakers from Canada and abroad, combining local expertise with perspectives from established offshore wind regions. The event will provide a forum for sharing knowledge, fostering collaboration, and strengthening connections across the offshore wind community.
