The Western Sarnia-Lambton Research Park hosted the ninth annual Research Bridges competition on Friday June 21, 2019

There were 26 students each of whom had three minutes to present with only one slide their research to non-specialist judges. There were two sessions this year. One focused on chemical, biochemical, and biomaterials engineering, and the second session was on green and environmental engineering. Awards were presented to:

Chemical, Biochemical and Biomaterials Engineering

First Prize: Single bubble dynamics in a dense phase fluidized bed gasification environment in presence of biomass pellets by Nicolas Torres Brauer

Second Prize: CFD Simulation of bubble column hydrodynamics in the presence of internals by Glen Dsouza

Green and Environmental Engineering

First Prize: Production of bio-based polymers for water retention materials in soil using lignocellulosic biomass by Rosa Arredondo

Second Prize: Efficient extraction of lipid from microalgae using ionic liquids by Yujie Zhang

Congratulations to Dr. Charles Xu, he received the 2019 CSChE Award in Design and Industrial Practice.
