Biomedical Engineering

Puneet Ranota is currently pursuing an MESc in Biomedical Engineering at Western University. She completed her BMSc in Interdisciplinary Medical Sciences from Western in April 2018 and joined the Human Biomechanics Laboratory in January 2019. The focus of her thesis is examining in vivo contact mechanics assessment using volumetric 3D imaging. Her current project uses dynamic CT imaging to quantify wrist motion following a distal radius fracture and measure changes in 3D joint spaces which are known to be affected by wrist instability and osteoarthritis. The goal of this project is to elucidate the relationship between joint alignment following a wrist fracture and the associated long-term clinical outcomes. This proposed research project is supported by a larger transdisciplinary project entitled, "4DCT to Examine the Effect of Mal-united Distal Radius Fractures on Carpal Contact Mechanics, Osteoarthritis and Patient Outcomes” with collaborators in Imaging (Dr. Ting Lee) and Orthopedic Surgery (Dr. Nina Suh) at the Roth|McFarlane Hand and Upper Limb Center.
