Lab Culture

Our lab is committed to diversity, equity and support.

We are a team of highly multi-disciplinary researchers who have consistently shown that we value multiple perspectives that strongly feel that this is the only way to find unique solutions to complex problems. We celebrate and respect multiple approaches and views and believe that this diversity drives innovation. In all of our research projects, we adopt a team-based transdisciplinary approach to examine a longstanding clinical problem, which has not been solved previously by relying on single experts or multiple experts within a single field. As a group we are also committed to expanding our network of collaborators in the public and private sector as we work towards this collective objective. Our research team is highly interdisciplinary integrating key expertise and techniques of multiple disciplines spanning Mechanical Engineering, Medical and Biomedical Engineering, Clinical Medicine, Physical Therapy and Health Sciences and Basic Medicine and Life Sciences. We are committed to incorporating equitable practices in the development, planning and implementation of our research projects. We collectively understand and acknowledge the historical inequity that has led to today’s current state of inequity. We acknowledge that many research teams are not diverse due to a lack of representation of marginalized researchers in the field but we are committed toward providing opportunities for considerations of equity, diversity and inclusion in the recruitment process, team composition, training and development opportunities and inclusion.
