Intelligent monitoring for elderly and the disabled using vision , depth, motion and audio sensors

2012 - 2017 Supported by National Science and Engineering Research Council of Canada

This research is based on the premise that living in their own home increases the quality of life of elderly, increases the options for caregivers and reduces the pressure on health-care resources. We aim to provide a lower-cost, smart home monitoring solution that will reduce the risk of an unattended emergency. We are developing novel algorithms for using video, depth, motion and audio sensors to determine the state of well-being of occupants within the monitored home.

Search and Rescue Synthetic Aperture Radar

2012-2013 Supported by National Science and Engineering Research Council of Canada

This project explored the feasibility of using existing software-defined-radio implementations such as the USRP devices by Ettus Research to explore basic concepts in developing a configurable RADAR. We developed a prototype to explore the potential to generate more effective imagery data with a low-cost and aircraft mountable radar system.
