Why Western Engineering?

When choosing a university, Western’s strong sense of community and school spirit really stood out. Western’s Civil Engineering program is one of the best in Canada, which made it an easy choice. I also really liked the campus and felt it was the right place for me to grow both academically and personally.

What do you do in your spare time?

In my spare time, I enjoy going to the gym to stay active and play volleyball, which helps me destress and stay connected with friends. I also love photography and whenever I can, I try spending time with family.

What was your orientation week experience like as a first-year student?

Orientation Week was an exciting and fun experience. During the week I learned how to find my way around campus, and about the many engineering clubs. I liked all of the activities and was overall very excited coming into a new environment, city and exploring everything for the first time.

Why did you choose your specific stream of engineering?

I chose civil (structural) engineering because I’ve always been drawn to construction. My parents work in the field, and growing up around it inspired me. With Canada’s growing infrastructure, it’s a career that will always be essential, and I believe it’s not something that can easily be replaced by machines or AI.

What is your favourite book, movie or TV show?

My favorite movie is Interstellar, I really love the concept, soundtrack and all of the attention to detail in the movie and my favorite show is breaking bad.

Who do you look up to/admire and why?

I look up to my parents a lot. Their work ethic, sacrifice, and constant support have shaped who I am today. They’ve always led by example and I have everything to thank them for.
