Q&A with Robert Meneguzzo

I encourage every student to get involved because some of the most meaningful learning, friendships, and opportunities happen outside the classroom.

Why Western Engineering?
Western Engineering is a dynamic program with many opportunities inside and outside the classroom; especially through our various dual degrees. We are proud of our close-knit faculty where each of us wishes to see each other succeed.
What do you do in your spare time?
I try to spend most of my time with family or with friends. When I have time to myself , I'll typically relax and listen to music. I always try to explore different genres and artists, so I keep a good variety for when I’m studying. Other than that, I always stay active whether it be working out at the gym or going for a run or playing basketball with friends. This year, I’ve started to cook foods from different cuisines, so hopefully I won’t just be making chicken and rice every evening.
Can you talk about your extracurricular activities at Western?
This year, I’m serving as the VP Build Team for Western’s Engineers Without Borders chapter after three years with the club. It’s been incredibly rewarding to contribute to projects that reflect the values that inspired me to pursue engineering—using technical skills to create more equitable and sustainable solutions. I encourage every student to get involved because some of the most meaningful learning, friendships, and opportunities happen outside the classroom.
Why did you choose your specific stream of engineering?
I chose Mechanical Engineering and Ivey Business HBA dual degree since I have a great interest in thermodynamics and mechanical systems as well as finance and marketing practices. Fortunately for me, Western provides very dynamic program offerings, and I believe that this is the best route I could take to explore and consolidate my academic interests.
What is your favourite book, movie or TV show?
My favourite movie is probably Good Will Hunting. It really is a timeless movie that I find myself always coming back to once in a while. The story is very powerful and inspiring with great delivery in the dialogue. Robin Williams was also one of my favourite actors growing up, so I often gravitate to a lot of his work.
Who do you look up to/admire and why?
All my life I’ve admired my parents for their guidance, compassion, and selflessness. They’ve worked tirelessly, often sacrificing their own time and comfort, to give my sister and me every opportunity for success. In return, they only ask that we lead with kindness and work hard to achieve our dreams. Every value I hold comes from looking up to them, and not a single day goes by where I take their endless love and support for granted.
