Why Western Engineering?
I chose Western Engineering because I immediately felt welcomed into a tight-knit, supportive community. I wanted to be part of an environment that values both academic excellence and genuine friendships, where collaboration in the classroom is balanced with fun outside of it. Western stood out as a place where I could grow not only as a student, but also as a person, surrounded by peers who share the same passion for learning, teamwork, and celebrating each other’s successes.
What do you do in your free time?
In my free time, I enjoy going on walks while listening to music or spending time at the gym. Both activities help me relax and recharge, which is especially important with the demands of engineering. They give me a chance to clear my head, focus on my well-being, and take care of my body. I find it rewarding to do something productive that feels fun and refreshing, rather than spending all my time studying, as it helps me maintain balance and stay motivated in daily life.
What was your orientation week experience like as a first year student?
Orientation Week was both exciting and overwhelming, as it was my first time being far from home without my parents. The mix of independence, new responsibilities, and constant events created a whirlwind of emotions, but it also gave me the chance to meet incredible people and feel welcomed into the Western Engineering community. Every event was memorable, but Eng Karaoke stood out as the highlight, it’s a tradition I’d recommend to every first-year and an experience no one should ever miss.
Why did you choose your specific stream of engineering?
I grew up playing Bloxburg on Roblox and loved creating buildings of all kinds. Like many people in civil engineering, I originally thought about pursuing architecture, but I realized drawing wasn’t one of my strengths. I’m grateful that choice led me to civil engineering because it offers the perfect balance of office and field work. What excites me most is being able to contribute to designing and shaping the urban environment around us, making the work both meaningful and impactful.
What is your favourite book, movie or TV show?
My favorite TV show is The Good Place because it has a unique concept that sets it apart from most series. I loved how it explored philosophy and morality in such a lighthearted and comedic way, which made it both thought-provoking and fun to watch. The biggest highlight for me was the plot twist as it completely caught me off guard. Normally, I can predict how stories will unfold, but this show kept me guessing, making it one of the most memorable and enjoyable shows I’ve ever watched.
Who do you look up to/admire and why?
I really admire my parents because they immigrated us to Canada when I was three years old. After moving alone to London for school, I gained a new appreciation for just how difficult it must have been for them to leave behind their family, friends, and everything familiar to start fresh in a completely new place. Their perseverance and sacrifices created opportunities for my brother and me to grow, and I owe so much of who I am today to the resilience, strength, and dedication they have shown.
