Why Western Engineering?

Western Engineering provides a wide array of possibilities and paths for students to go down. When graduating from high school, I had no idea which stream of engineering I wanted to go into. Having a general first year allows you to find what you are interested in and what you would like to pursue for the next three years of school. There are many resources for students to use if you have no idea about it, like I did.

What do you do in your spare time?

In my spare time, I enjoy working out, playing sports/video games, and hanging out with friends. If I’m not doing that, you can usually find me watching some kind of sporting event, especially hockey.

What was your orientation week experience like as a first-year student?

My orientation week experience as a first-year student was great. Coming in, all the sophs were very welcoming and helpful with getting me used to and oriented in this new environment. During that week, I was able to meet so many new people and create a lot of friends that I still talk to and hang out with to this day.

Why did you choose your specific stream of engineering?

I chose mechanical engineering because I have an interest in what goes on under the hood. Not only being able to understand but also creating machines/mechanisms that move and serve a purpose interests me.

What is your favourite book, movie, or TV show?

My favourite movie is The Martian. I’ve had a keen interest in space ever since I was little, and the movie captures both the fascination, mystery, and dangers of space.

Who do you look up to/admire and why?

The person I look up to is my grandfather; he is the hardest-working person I know, and I have learned so many things from him.
