Why Western Engineering?
I chose Western because after touring campus, I loved the engineering labs and the variety of disciplines offered. I also wanted a common first year since I wasn't sure which engineering field I wanted to persue, and Western was one of the few schools that offered that. The long-term co-op program and the opportunity to live away from home also made it the right choice.
What do you do in your spare time?
In my spare time, I enjoy a mix of outdoor activites and other hobbies. I love exploring new places, but I also enjoy relaxing nights in playing board games and card games with friends, roommates, and family. Recently, I started learning how to sew, which has been a fun way to be creative and develop a new skill. I also enjoy travelling and working on new projects that allow me to learn and try something different.
Can you talk about your extracurricular activities at Western?
Throughout my 4 years at Western, I have been involved in various extracurricular activities and outreach initiatives, including the Women in Engineering Club's Big Sister Little Sister program, Eng Squad, intramurals, the Western Engineering Competition, and the Western Aqueous Water Treatment Association. I would encourage students to get involved in as many activities as possible. These expereinces help you meet new people inside and outside you discipline while allowing you to develop new skills and discover interest beyond the classroom.
Why did you choose your specific stream of engineering?
I chose Mechanical Engineering because I have always been interested in how things move and how different systems work together. I liked that mechanical engineering is a broad field that allows you to work in many different industries and areas, including design, manufacturing, materials, and automation. When I first started, I was interested in the hands-on and design aspects, but my co-op ecperience has opened my eyes to the many different paths available within mechanical engineering and how versatile the field really is.
What is your favourite book, movie or TV show?
Some of my favourite shows are New Girl and Brooklyn Nine-Nine. More recently, I started watching Not Suitable for Work, which has been a great show so far. I also enjoy reading and often read dystopian and fantasy books.
Who do you look up to/admire and why?
I look up to my parents because of their work ethic, resilience, and the way they have always supported and encouraged me to try new things and do my best no matter what. They have taught me the importance of staying curious, working hard, and continuing to grow. I especially admire their willingness to continue learning throughout their careers and take on new challenges, which is something I hope to carry forward in my own career.
