Why Western Engineering?

I always knew I wanted to enter engineering since I started high school. The major question was where I wanted to attend. This question was answered for most of high school until I found a few answers that made me select Western. The major convincing reason was the reputation of Western’s Civil Engineering program. I knew that when I chose Western, I would be supplied with many learning opportunities and a proper set-up once I graduated. This combined with the campus culture that my family alumni have shared with me are the reasons why I chose Western Engineering.

What do you do in your spare time?

I love to fill my spare time with sports, whether it is my friend group’s fantasy football league or Western’s intramural hockey I love to stay busy with friends.

What was your orientation week experience like as a first-year student?

Despite still having challenges with COVID during my orientation week our graduating year was still given a great experience. Multiple concerts, events and tours filled our week with fun events. Orientation week was the best time to meet people and the events catered directly to that. There was no shortage of people to meet, and I really enjoyed that as a social person.

Why did you choose your specific stream of engineering?

Throughout high school, I worked construction over the summers. This first introduced me to the construction industry and since then I have loved it. With constant work, innovation, and travel opportunities it drew me into the field of civil engineering. I also enjoy green technology and would love to work one day on projects like hydroelectric dams or nuclear facilities.

What is your favourite book, movie or TV show?

My favourite TV show is Suits, I would go as far as to say that I would consider an alternate career path in becoming a lawyer if it was not for Engineering. I always watched the show with my dad so there is a good chance that is also what made me enjoy it so much.

Who do you look up to/admire and why?

The person I look up to the most is my father. Through every stage of my life, he has been a role model. From teaching me early lessons from being my hockey coach, and hunting with him every fall to helping me decide my career path and find summer jobs. I only wish to accomplish or have the drive to get to where he is today and I know he will always support me.
