Welcome to Western and the Graduate program in Electrical and Computer Engineering.  We look forward to working with you during your stay at Western.

Getting Started

  • Fall 2023 - All new students are required to register at the ECE Graduate Office in TEB 279, by 4:00pm on September 15, 2023 and introduce yourself to our Graduate Coordinator.
  • Graduate students all attend a department-specific orientation during the first week of their first term of study. Additionally, the Faculty of Engineering holds an orientation session during the first two weeks of each term for new students.  Both sessions are mandatory for incoming students.
  • If you have not already done so, please activate your Western identity by going to ITS activation page. All official Western communications are sent to your uwo.ca email, and it is your responsibilty to maintain this account. Students are encouraged to use their Western e-mail address all the time when corresponding to any Western offices. 
  • Detailed information and all policies set by SGPS is available on their website.
  • Familiarize yourself with our beautiful campus by checking out our campus maps. Venture and explore for yourself what our campus has to offer.
  • International students must present a valid study permit to both the School of Graduate and Postdoctoral Studies (located in the International and Graduate Affairs Building, Room 1N32) before your student account will be activated. You cannot enroll in courses or pick up your student card before showing proof of a valid study permit.
  • Visit the Office of the Registrar website to learn about fee payment methods. Click here for fee schedule. Don't forget to pick up your Western ONECard.
  • Research students need to apply for a Canadian Social Insurance Number (SIN). You will need to provide proof of employment as part of the application process. Please complete the Graduate Student Employment Contract (from the ECE Graduate Office). You will have to go in person to apply for this document at the:
  • London Human Resource Centre of Canada 457 Richmond St, London, Ontario, N6A 4S7. Hours: Monday to Friday from 8:30 am to 4:00 pm.

What safety training am I required to complete?

All graduate students are required to complete the following training within the first two months of study. Failure to do so can result in your student account being sealed. To unseal your account you will be required to pay a $50 fee and show proof that you completed all required training.
