Featured - Julianna Quondamatteo (IE Year 3): Global Opportunities Award (2023-24); International Learning Award (2023-24); John M. Thompson Award in Engineering Leadership and Innovation Award (2024-25)

Julianna was featured on Western Engineering news for her 2023-2024 work with Western Engineers in Action (WEIA), which included designing and building an 83 m suspended footbridge in Eswatini and having a transformative experience with the local community:

Prior to the Summer 2024, Julianna, along with her teammates from Integrated Engineering (Maya Archer, Makena Murungi, Freya Sutherland) won the Consulting category of Western Engineering Competition in 2023-24. The same year Julianna had served as the IE Class Rep for Year 3 students in Integrated Engineering, making important inputs for the IE program's continuous improvement in the curriculum and student experience. 

 


 

 

Featured - Maya Archer (IE BESc Year 3): Igor Lukac Engineering Award

Maya is in her third year of Integrated Engineering and preparing for co-op for next year. After graduating Western with an Integrated Engineering degree, Maya plans to pursue a Project Management Professional Certificate and the Professional Engineering License. 

Maya loves being a part of the Western community. She is an executive in the Engineering Musical, and the Integrated Engineering Club. Maya mentors a first year student through the Women in Engineering Big Sister Little Sister program. She is also a member of Black Student Association, and the Caribbean Student Association.

As part of her study-abroad during high school, Maya was a part of a program to study in China for a month, paired with another school in Jining to visit Shanghai and Beijing as part of the studies. Maya recounts this international experience as an extraordinary learning engagement that has shaped the student she is today. 

 

Lukac Award is awarded annually to a full-time student entering his or her final years (3,4,5) in the Integrated Engineering Program. Preference will be given to a student in the combined BESc (Integrated Engineering) and HBA degree program and/or who has international exchange or study-abroad experience. Selection will be based on academic achievement and other experiences ie. international experiences. The recipient will be selected by the Undergraduate Awards Committee in the Faculty of Engineering. This award was established by a generous gift from Igor Lukac (BESc (Integrated)/HBA 2010).
