In-School Workshops (K - Grade 6)

Each Spring, Western Engineering Outreach offers in-school workshops for elementary schools. Our main goals are for students have fun and get curious while growing their awareness and enjoyment of STEM. Many of our workshops complement the Ontario Science and Technology Curricula.

Energetic Western Engineering Outreach instructors travel within London and the surrounding area to deliver workshops to students in Kindergarten to Grade 6 to share their love of STEM.

In-School Workshop Descriptions

- Introduction to Ozobots (Screen-free coding with Ozobot robots for Kindergarten)
- Ozobot Constellations (Screen-free coding with Ozobot robots tracing constellations for Gr. 1, 2, 3)
- Creative Circuitry (Create a working circuit using household materials for Gr. 4, 5, 6)
- Micro:bit Animals and Language (Use software and hardware to block code for Gr. 4, 5, 6,)
- Let's Rock (An introduction to AI: use a data set to teach a machine about lunar rocks for Gr. 4, 5, 6)

Cost

In-school workshops are 1.5 hours and cost $150. This includes the cost of delivery and materials for up to 30 students. There is an additional cost of $50 for schools located outside a 50 kilometer radius from the University.

Bursaries

Bursaries covering 85% of the cost of the workshop may be available for schools serving youth facing socio-economic challenges or otherwise serving youth under-represented in STEM.  Please email discover@uwo.ca to see if you qualify for a bursary. While we aim to fill as many requests as possible, bursaries are limited.

Cancellation Policy

A 20% non-refundable administrative fee is applied to all cancellations made at least 10 business days prior to the in-school workshop. All cancellation requests must be submitted in writing to discover@uwo.ca. Cancellations requested less than 10 business days prior to the in-school workshop date will not be issued any refund. No refunds will be made in the event of the university or school closure.
