PhD Candidate in Health and Rehabilitation Science

Lauren Straatman is currently pursuing an MSc in Health and Rehabilitation Science at Western University. She received a Bachelor of Kinesiology from the University in Toronto in April 2019, where she played women’s varsity hockey for five years. Lauren’s thesis is a collaborative project within health and rehabilitation science and biomedical engineering under the supervision of Dr. David Walton and Dr. Emily Lalone. The project will focus on the exploration of predictors of pain after a distal radius fracture. She will focus on two image-based biomarkers using four-dimensional computed tomography to quantify joint contact mechanics and subchondral bone mineral density as potential mechanisms underpinning pain. In addition, she has a secondary project regarding the relationship between subjective and objective measures of pain.
