The Sharon A. Ling Award of Excellence for Outstanding Achievement by a Staff Member is presented annually to a Western Engineering employee to recognize their exceptional long-term contributions in support of the academic, research, innovation, public service or administrative missions of the Faculty of Engineering.

This year’s recipient, Stephanie Tigert, Graduate Coordinator in the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering, received overwhelming support from faculty, staff and students as the most deserving of the award.

Tigert was widely recognized for her kindness and positive attitude, her willingness to help others and take on new challenges, and her devoted service to graduate students.

“I can undoubtedly say that my working relationship with Stephanie is one of the most rewarding experiences I have had at Western,” said Jayshri Sabarinathan, Associate Professor in the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering. “It is an absolute joy to work with her on a daily basis and I look forward to it. We work as an excellent team, and it is largely due to her dedication, organization and leadership.”

And for Tigert, the feeling towards her colleagues is mutual.

“Sharon A. Ling was a well loved and respected member of the Electrical and Computer Engineering Department and to be considered for an award in her memory is a complete honour. I am so grateful to everyone in the Electrical and Computer Engineering Department and the Faculty of Engineering for their support. Working with such wonderful faculty members, colleagues and graduate students makes my job a pleasure.”

Tigert will receive the Sharon A. Ling Award of Excellence for Outstanding Achievement by a Staff Member at the Western Engineering Faculty and Staff Award Luncheon on June 1.
