Professor charges toward better electric vehicle battery life

While you may see a Chevrolet Volt here, or a Nissan Leaf there, the future of the electric car has a way to go when it comes to safety, cost and, especially, performance. However, Engineering professor Andy Sun may have an answer to that final challenge.

Western-led study reveals new surface chemistry in electric vehicle batteries

In a new study, published in Nature Communications, Western Engineering researcher Xueliang (Andy) Sun and his team of collaborators have shown for the first time that carbon coating not only affects conductivity and performance of electric car battery materials, but also alters the chemistry of the battery material's interactive surface.

Three projects tapped for NSERC Strategic Project Grants

Projects led by Western professors Oleg Semenikhin, Abdallah Shami and Jun Yang are among 77 scientific teams receiving more than $43 million in Natural Sciences and Engineering Research Council of Canada (NSERC) programs.
