Pendar Soltan Mohammadi

Pendar is currently a M.E.Sc. Candidate in the department of Biomedical Engineering at the Western University. He received his B.Sc. degree in Mechanical Engineering from Sharif University of Technology in Iran. His research interests are in Orthopaedic Biomechanics, Finite Element Analysis, and Design Optimization.

Stress shielding of bone around the stem components of orthopedic implants, including total shoulder replacement (TSR) implants, can result in bone resorption, leading to implant loosening and failure. Hollow porous TSR implant stems fabricated using metal AM can potentially reduce stress shielding. Pendar is hoping to optimize the design of such stem components of TSR implants through rigorous and systematic design optimization techniques to reduce the effect of stress shielding.

In Pendar’s spare time, he plays chess as an entertaining mind game. After finishing his masters, he plans to pursue his career in the related industries. Also, he will be looking forward to the next season of Rick & Morty.
