Graduate Students:

We are looking for highly motivated, collaborative and open-minded students with backgrounds including but not limited to materials, mechanical engineering, chemistry, chemical engineering, physics and related fields. The ideal candidates are expected to be dedicated to scientific study and addressing key challenges. Interested candidates, please send your CV, transcripts, and a brief introduction to Dr. Zhao.

MEng Students:

We have MEng projects available (Course MME 9600) for MEng students. If you are interested, please send your CV and a brief introduction to Dr. Zhao

The student will have an eight-month project on the topic of batteries.

Q: What do I expect after sending the email about the possibility of joining your lab?

A: Thank you for your interest in joining our group. Applications are reviewed and interviewed on an ongoing basis. Please understand that due to the high volume of emails received from potential students, it is regrettable that I am unable to respond to each one individually. Selected applicants should expect to receive communication within a week. If you do not hear from us within that timeframe, we encourage you to continue with your application and pursue other opportunities. This isn’t a reflection of your expertise; it simply means the fit wasn’t quite right.

Q: Do I need to send reminder emails about my application? 

A: There is no need to follow up or send reminders if you do not hear from us within that time frame. 

Q: Can I call the office number to discuss the possibility of joining your lab?

A: No. Email is our only means of communication. We don't discuss recruitment over the phone. Please don't call. 

Q: What should I include in my email about my application? 

A: If you are applying as a postdoctoral fellow or graduate student, please include your CV with a full publication list, highlight any first-author work, briefly explain your interest in our research, and provide the names of three references. Graduate student applicants should also include their transcripts.
