Overall Project Objectives

To optimize green roof design to mitigate against the impacts of urbanization.

Short-term objectives:

  1. Quantification of green roof performance at field sites
  2. Characterization of growth media
  3. Development of a numerical model to simulate green roof performance
  4. Assessing green roof performance in Canada and implications of climate change
  5. Urban scale modeling of green roofs in Canadian climates

Water Balance Objectives

  1. To assess ability of green roof to reduce stormwater runoff
  2. To assess ability of green roof to attenuate stormwater runoff
  3. To compare green roof performance in a small test cell and a larger green roof
  4. To compare green roof performance to growth media in a small test cell
  5. To complete a water balance in small test cell as well as larger green roof
