  • Rohani to receive Engineering Medal at the 2008 Ontario Professional Engineers Awards Gala
    The Ontario Society of Professional Engineers (OSPE) and Professional Engineers Ontario (PEO) recently announced the winners of the 2008 Ontario Professional Engineers Awards. Dr. Sohrab Rohani, Professor and Chair, Department of Chemical and Biochemical Engineering at Western was named a recipient of the Engineering Medal – Research and Development Category. (more)

  • CBE students, finalists in SNC-LAVALIN Plant Design Competition
    The student group consisting of Western Chemical and Biochemical Engineering students Suanne Mahabir, Karen Lenkiewicz and Luke McIntyre, are one of three finalists in the SNC-LAVALIN Plant Desgin Competition for their project "Manufacture of Ploylactic Acid - Biodegradable Plastic from Renewable Sources".   • Awards promote commercialization
    Dr. Xianbin Wang, Associate Professor, Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering, was recently awarded $50,000 from the Western Innovation Fund for his project entitled Adaptive Orthogonal Frequency Division Multiplexing (OFDM) System for Spectrum Efficient Communications. (more)

  • Roof razing raises housing safety questions
    When it comes to research, always expect the unexpected. Western Engineering professor Greg Kopp can attest to that. Following a series of structural tests to the Three Little Pigs project at The Insurance Research Lab for Better Homes, some surprising results have provided answers to a number of questions surrounding unlimited strength and brute force, but at the same time fueled countless others.     The Three Little Pigs Project at the Insurance Research Lab for Better Homes was also featured on CBS News Productions and The Discovery Channel's program, Collapse!, CNN.com and MSNBC.com this month.  The research project was also featured in the London Free Press and The Gazette.

  • IN PROFILE: Francois Lagugné-Labarthet and Elizabeth Gillies
    Two chairs with a lot of chemistry. The husband-wife team of Francois Lagugné-Labarthet and Elizabeth Gilles have each earned Canada Research Chairs in chemistry. Gillies is also an Assistant Professor in the Faculty of Engineering. (more)

  • Western Engineering's Claudette MacKay-Lassonde Pavilion has received $1 million from the T.R. Meighen Family Foundation
    A gift of $1 million from the T.R. Meighen Family Foundation will be supporting the Claudette MacKay-Lassonde Pavilion – Western’s Green Building. This building is currently under construction and is scheduled to be completed in the summer of 2009.(more)

  • Western Engineering welcomes Randy Van Straaten
    Effective September 1, Randy Van Straaten assumed the continuing role of Facilities Manager for the Insurance Research Lab for Better Homes in the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering. Randy will be responsible for the upkeep, maintenance and overall management of the IRLBH and will engage with faculty, students, researchers and industrial partners to grow the commercially funded research activities of the facility. Randy will have office space in the Boundary Layer Wind Tunnel (temporarily room 145) and at the IRLBH facility. He will be working very closely with Dr. Mike Bartlett, Dr. Greg Kopp, Dr. Eric Savory, Dr. Panagiota Karava, Dr. Hanping Hong and Dr. Peter King. Please join Western Engineering in welcoming Randy to our team.

  • Volunteers needed for Homecoming 2008
