History

The Capstone Design Presentation and Competition event started in 2006 at the Research Park in Sarnia.

The Research Park authorities (specially Dr. Katherine Albion) have had a major role in the events. Their enormous contribution in holding the events and arranging for sponsorships from Sarnia-Lambton industries and organizations as well as selection of judges from chemical industries have been crucial in the event success.

Students present their design work including detailed design of major equipment as well as detailed economics of their projects. Environmental impact analysis, safety and risk analysis, Layer of Protection analysis (LOPA), waste minimization and recycling have been integrated parts of the Design tasks. The event has been handled annually since 2006 (except in 2020 due to the pandemic).
