PCI announced 2005 Engineering Design Awards (Best Beam Contest)

Western Engineering placed fourth for its Zone in the 2005 PCI (Precast/Prestressed Concrete Institute) Big Beam Contest. Team members Tom Greenough, Daniel Barber, Mohamed Bassuoni, Allen Chen, Johnny Huen, Allan Garnham and Gregory Stokkermans, with faculty advisor Maged Youseff, won $250 along with other prizes for their beam submission.

The Big Beam Contest is organized by PCI’s Student Education Committee and sponsored by Sika Corporation. The objective is for teams of students to fabricate and test a precast, prestressed concrete beam with the help of local PCI producer members. Prizes are awarded for the most efficient design, highest load capacity, best report, and other categories.
