Working to improve system restoration

Although we were all in the dark in August 2003, thanks to the massive blackout that hit Ontario and several states, the incident shined a light on Dr. Tarlochan Sidhu’s research.

Sidhu, the Department Chair in Electrical and Computer Engineering, has research experience and interests in the area of power systems. Specifically, he has carried out work in the fields of power system protection, analysis and monitoring.

After the blackout, Sidhu chaired a working group that produced a technical report entitled, Protection Issues during System Restoration. A report that has since won the IEEE Power System Relaying Committee award, and now the IEEE PES Working Group Award.

Sidhu, and his working group, will be recognized at the PES General Meeting, to be held in Montreal from June 18 to 22, 2006.
