Hydro One powers up more support for Western Engineering

Hydro One and Western Engineering have been working together since 2001 to enhance education and training in Power Systems Engineering programs. Over the past four years, Hydro One has supported Western Engineering with a Hydro One Chair position in Power Systems Engineering.

Susan Crowley, Western’s Director, Corporate Development recently reported that Hydro One has renewed its commitment to Power Systems Engineering at Western. Their recent gift will extend their commitment to partially support Hydro One's Chair position for three additional years and offer six or more undergraduate scholarships annually to fourth-year students in the Power Systems Option of the Electrical Engineering program.

“This gift is in recognition of the shared objective of Western and Hydro One in maintaining Western's leading edge in the area of power systems and power electronics,” explains Crowley.

As part of this partnership, Western and Hydro One will explore opportunities to create co-op placements – both Summer Engineering Co-op (SECOP) and/or Industry Internship (IIP) - for Western students within Western’s Power Systems Engineering group and at Hydro One.

“Western Engineering and Engineering Career Services are so appreciative of companies like Hydro One who creatively develop co-op opportunities," says Lesley Mounteer, Western Engineering's Manager, External Services. "Co-ops give our students an edge over graduating students with no engineering related work experience. We are very thankful to Hydro One.”
