Western Engineering student wins Minerva Safety Award

Congratulations to Integrated Engineering student Mark Cicero for winning the 2008 Minerva Canada – James Ham Safe Design Award. This year, Ontario-based engineering students were asked to find an original way to integrate safety into an engineering design.

Mark won the top prize for designing a safety management audit training database system that greatly assisted his summer employer in making their employees more aware and responsive to workplace hazards. His system has been used to collect data, eliminate recurrent safety issues and thus prevent employee injuries.

Mark received his award in Toronto on April 22, 2008, at the Industrial Accident Prevention Association’s national Health and Safety Conference and Trade Show, where he also participated in a poster presentation and demonstrated his system.
