All departments to receive NSERC RTI grants


A faculty member from each department in Western Engineering will receive a NSERC RTI grant this year.

Chemical and Biochemical Engineering
Dr. Amarjeet Bassi will receive $ 89,746 for his research in Ultracentrifuge for membrane proteins.

Civil and Environmental Engineering
Dr. Dennis O'Carroll will receive $ 48,211 for his research in Systems to quantify the impact of soil surface chemistry on structure, flow and contaminant transport in subsurface porous media systems.

Chemical and Biochemical Engineering
Dr. Ajay Ray will receive $85,000 for his research in Applications of multiobjective optimization in the design of simulated moving bed systems for chiral drug separation.

Electrical and Computer Engineering
Dr. Rajiv Varma will receive $34,811 for his research in Enhanced realtime digital simulation facility.

Mechanical and Materials Engineering
Dr. Jun Yang will receive $148,677 for his research in An integrated experimental system for applications of labonachip.

“These research grants will help our faculty members conduct research using state-of-the-art equipment and resources,” says Dr. Hesham El Naggar, Western Engineering Associate Dean Research and External Services. “It is exciting to see at least one member from each department receive funding in a very competitive program. It has been a successful funding year for the Faculty of Engineering at Western.”
