Engineers Rule The World ... Engineers Rule WESTERN!

Engineers around the world often use the acronym ERTW – Engineers Rule The World.

For the next five years, engineers will rule Western as the university recently welcomed its 10th president, Amit Chakma, and its 6th Dean of Engineering, Andrew Hrymak, on July 1, 2009, each for a five-year term. Not to mention, in March 2008, John M. Thompson, BESc ’66, was named the 20th chancellor of The University of Western Ontario.

Chakma comes to Western from the University of Waterloo as Vice-President, Academic & Provost, and a professor in the Department of Chemical Engineering at the University of Waterloo.

Hrymak comes to Western from McMaster University where he has served as professor and Chair of the Department of Chemical Engineering and Director of the Walter G. Booth School of Engineering Practice and the McMaster Manufacturing Research Institute.

Hrymak has a strong record of teaching, research, and industrial collaboration. His principal areas of specialization are polymer and materials processing, computational fluid dynamics, and process design and simulation.

“He has already achieved an impressive record as a scholar and as an academic leader at McMaster University,” says Provost and Vice-President (Academic) Fred Longstaffe, Chair of the Selection Committee. “His expertise and creativity will prove of tremendous value to the Faculty and to Western.”
