What inspired you to choose engineering?
The field of science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) has interested me since middle school. I was enrolled in the Science and Technology program. In those three years, I got exposed to lego robotics, video editing, design, and programming. I really enjoyed working with my peers and sharing my ideas. I have always wanted to do something to benefit the society and I felt that engineering would be the best path to pursue.

Why Mechatronic Systems Engineering?
When I had initially enrolled in Western Engineering, I really wanted to study Electrical Engineering. My reasoning behind it was that it “sounded cool.” With the common first year, I got exposed to programming and computer-aided design. It then became difficult to pick a specific field to focus on because I liked everything! This led me to choosing Mechatronic Systems Engineering. Had I not experienced the common first year, I would not have had a good understanding of the engineering program that I wanted to pursue.

Why Western Engineering?
The engineering curriculum is consistent throughout all accredited universities in Ontario. To me, it is the small things that sets Western University apart from other engineering institutions. The campus is beautiful. The gym is huge. There is a lot of support from students, faculty and staff. It feels like home away from home.

How do you manage school-related stress?
I found that eating healthy and having a good sleep schedule has a positive effect on not only my stress level but on my academic performance as well so I ensure that I am sleeping on time and that I have a healthy diet during the year. I also make sure to plan activities with my friends and family throughout the school year. Spending time with people I care about is a great way for me to deal with stress.

What is a fun fact about yourself?
In first year, after I had written a 4-hour business exam, I was really tired. I had to call campus police to back my car out of a parking space.
