“I think RESTORE is the place for people who want to work on innovative, cutting edge research topics under dynamic and friendly supervisors. Dynamic research ideas, friendly environment, dedicated supervisors and students, social events and group meetings take RESTORE to the next level. After finishing my undergrad, I was looking for a good innovative research group which meets my expectation and RESTORE was the answer. Overall Western is a good school; London is a beautiful place to live, so RESTORE is the perfect match for me. ”

Project Title:
Modeling of Water Aggressiveness and Corrosiveness toward Lead Plumbing in the Drinking water Distribution system of the city of London.

Project Description:
Lead is a toxic heavy metal and the adverse effects of lead consumption are a current public health concern. Internal corrosion of lead –containing pipe, fitting and solder in distribution systems is currently the most significant source of lead to drinking water. While new construction does not use lead, many older buildings retain the original lead service lines and internal plumbing. There are a number of old lead pipes in the water distribution system of London, Ontario which causes the exposure of lead in the drinking water. Different water treatment parameters effect lead dissociation in water. Understanding lead corrosion is a big challenge as water characteristics and treatment technologies are varied place to place. Hence, my research is focused on developing a model capable of simulating lead dissociation in the drinking water.

Personal Background:
I completed my Bachelor of Science in civil engineering from Bangladesh University of Engineering and Technology (BUET) in March 2009. I worked as a lecturer at the Ahsanullah University of Science & Technology University, Dhaka, Bangladesh. I think, Environmental issues will be the major concern for my country in the next decade. So I choose environmental engineering as the major subject during my undergrad. Currently, I am doing an MESc in Environmental Engineering with RESTORE at the University of Western Ontario.
