Dr.  K. Y. Lo - Research Interests

RESEARCH

Research covers a wide spectrum of Geotechnical Engineering. Projects include underground structures in rocks for energy and resource development, dams on rock foundations, soft ground tunnelling, and electrical strengthening of soft clays. Have published over 150 papers in refereed journals and conference proceedings. Received Best Paper Awards three times from the Canadian Geotechnical Society. Lectured in numerous national and international organizations including Trans Canada Tour and lecture tours in Europe, Japan and China. Served as keynote speaker and Chair at many Conferences. Legget Medal from Canadian Geotechnical Society 1989. Elected Fellow of Engineering Institute of Canada 1992. Winner of Keefer Medal from Canadian Society for Civil Engineers 1995. In recognition of his many contributions to the engineering profession the K.Y. Lo Medal Award has been established by the Engineering Institute of Canada 1997. Professional Engineers Medal for Research and Development 2006.
