Camp Dates & Themes

Western Engineering Outreach offers our dynamic and innovative Discovery Western camp programs in London, Ontario at Western University, as well as in Sarnia, Port Elgin, Huron-Kinloss and South Bruce.

Camp Themes

Our camp is centered around engineering and science projects that are geared towards the age of our campers. All of our projects are designed from the Ontario Science Curriculum to ensure that the material is relevant, educational, and fun! Each week our campers will work on 3 to 5 projects, depending on the age and size of the class. Sample schedules from previous years are available here.

Below are all our camp themes for 2019.

Discovery Western Summer Camp

Our regular programming offers two distinct curriculums (Curriculum A and B) so that your child can enjoy multiple weeks of camp. On our camp schedule page, you can see which curriculum theme is featured for that week. Each week of camp will feature our popular staples of Lego Robolab, Camp Wide Stock Market, and our Student Showcase. Select locations include swimming and the option to order a pizza lunch on Friday.

NEW Coding Camp

NEW this year we are offering select weeks of coding camp at Discovery Western. Students will start their week learning the basics of programming and progress to more complex projects throughout the week. Do not fear, not all projects will be at the computer with unplugged activities incorporated throughout the week focusing on problem solving and digital safety. Looking forward to meeting this year's Codemakers!

NEW STEAM Camp

NEW this year we are mixing art with science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) through creative and surprising programming that will highlight the imagination and beauty of STEM. Be prepared to learn about the music of STEM, create your own STEM art and even program robots to create their own art.

E 2 - Engineering & Entrepreneurship

Interested in taking your engineering skills to the next level? This exciting week will place you in a team of 2-4 students to design, prototype and create a commercial for your very own engineering invention. Learning from experts at Western Engineering campers will get an insider look at creating their own engineering product. Note: E 2 weeks offer a completely different set of activities compared to our Curriculum A and B offerings.

Maker Camps

Back by popular demand Maker camp is returning for a brand new camp season. Campers in this program will get to work with a variety of computer and technology-based projects like programming, circuit designs and learning applications for new technology.

Just for Girls Camp

Participants will learn from female engineering counselors and mentors about the amazing career that is engineering. Activities will highlight female engineers and focus on teamwork and creativity. Note: This week offers a completely different set of activities compared to our other weeks of camp.

GREAT Retreat

G.R.E.A.T. stands for Girls Recognizing Engineering and Technology and it is a camping weekend retreat for girls entering grades 4 through 8 in August. It is designed to introduce science and engineering and acts as an extension of our summer science and engineering camp. Learn more here: GREAT Retreat.
