Frequently Asked Questions

Registering for Programs:

What age group should I register for?
During the summer months, students and campers are grouped based on the grade that they will be entering in the fall succeeding that summer. For example: if a camper is in Grade 3 at the time of registration, then they will be entering Grade 4 in the fall and therefore should register for the Grade 4-6 group for summer camp.

I am having trouble using the online registration portal, what should I do?

Western Engineering Outreach has recently switched to a new registration system that has the ability to save your information from year to year. Click here for our tips page on troubleshooting any issues you may be experiencing.

Why can't I see any available programs on the website?

In order to see the programs available to your child, ensure that you have registered the child as a camper and selected their name. Only age-appropriate programs will be available for registration.

When and where is camp being held?
Check out camp locations here: Summer camp overview

How much is a week of camp?
A one-week camp session varies between $180 to $275 depending on the week offered. Please check out camp themes for more information.

Is lunch provided?
Unfortunately, we are not able to offer a lunch program.  We do however offer a Pizza Day once per week where lunch can be purchased.  Parents are asked to send a lunch with their camper(s)  the other 4 days. Out of respect for those with nut allergies, as with most camps, we ask that no peanut products be brought to camp.

Is there swimming?
Swimming is included as a weekly activity in all our camps. Campers will have access to Western University's Student Recreation Centre pool once a week with all campers required to complete a swim test.

Does the curriculum repeat?
We offer a variety of curriculum options so that your child can attend multiple weeks of camp. The curriculum does repeat for camps listed with the same theme for the same age group (ex. two weeks of 6-8 Space camp running on different dates will have the same curriculum). Camps designated "A" and "B" have unique curriculum from each other (ex. SK-2 STEAM A and STEAM B camps). Information about our camp curriculum can be found in our camp themes

Do you offer bursaries?
Discovery Western has a very limited number of bursaries available this year. Information about our bursaries can be found here.

What is your staff training like?
Western Engineering Outreach has a staff team of 30+ individuals who are all required to attend training sessions, submit a police check & have an update First Aid & CPR Level C certificate. We often have returning staff who are able to bring a wealth of knowledge from previous years as well they serve as mentors to our new staff.

My child is on the waitlist. What is the likelihood of them being able to attend camp?
Each year is different in terms of the number of students we are able to move from the waitlist to our registration. There is always some movement, but it is wise to register early in order to ensure your spot at Discovery Western camps.

My child is on the waitlist. When will I hear back from someone about their status?
A member of Western Engineering Outreach will contact you if a spot becomes available. We will keep your name on our waiting list until one week prior to camp starting.
