Hey everyone!

We are now in the middle of presidential elections! We have one candidate, Michael Zawalsky, a third year in Ivey/Integrated Engineering. I strongly encourage all students to get involved by voting in the online elections on February 14th and 15th. On Febrauary 16th, VP Position applications will be open. Apply online or pick up an application outside the UES. The roles of the VPs are in the By-Laws posted on the website and are also outside of the UES. Applications close Monday February 27th!

The First Year Integrated Conference is an opportunity for first year engineering students across Ontario to meet and discuss issues related to them. It is a great experience that provides an early opportunity to get involved in the engineering community. FYIC 2012 with take place at McMaster University from January 20th to January 22nd 2012. Applications can be found here or outside the UES. Please return them to the UES desk or by email to ues.vpext@uwo.ca by Wednesday, 7th of December.

CFES Congress is a week long conference hosted by the Canadian Federation of Engineering Students. It serves as both the AGM for CFES and an open forum for engineering students across Canada. The conference will be taking place from January 4-10 2012 in Whitehorse,Yukon. It is a great opportunity meet other engineering students from all across Canada. There will also be a career fair taking place during the week.

Applications are available outside the UES or on the UES website. Applications are due by Nov 3rd at 5:00 PM. Please ensure you sign up for an interview time outside the UES and have an updated resume in case you are chosen. Email me at ues.vpext@uwo.ca with any questions

PEO-SC is a conference hosted by the Professional Engineers of Ontario for students. It is a great conference for networking with other students as well as industry professionals. This year PEO-SC will take place over the weekend of November the 11th.

Go to the UES website (www.eng.uwo.ca/ues) or check outside the UES for applications. Please return applications electronically to ues.vpext@uwo.ca or by hard copy to the UES by 5:30, on Oct 10th 2011.

The Undergraduate Engineering Society hold an election for Year Representatives each school year in September. In the election Undergraduate engineering students vote to elect four first year representatives as well as one representative per class per year (2nd year mechanical engineering representative will be a different person then the 3rd year mechanical representative for example).

Year Representatives are voting members of the UES council and are responsible for representing their peers at UES council meetings approximately every second Monday evening which begin at 17:30 and usually end by 19:30 depending on council business. At the meetings, year reps will be informed of upcoming events and volunteer opportunities, as well as possible changes to council business and offerings by the council to undergrad students. Year reps will be responsible for informing their class about upcoming events and opportunities and encouraging class discussion to find out what kinds of opportunities their peers would like to have available. Year reps are encouraged to participate in council discussion to inform the UES council of the concerns and ideas from their peers to benefit their class and make their Western experience as enjoyable as possible.

Nomination forms are due to the folder on the UES bulletin board outside SEB1001 by Monday September 19th in the evening.

There will be an all-candidates meeting on Monday the 19th at 17:30

-> We will discuss appropriate locations for posters and having them approved
-> We will take down your names to display you as candidates on the UES website

Candidates will be permitted to campaign from Monday the 19th to Thursday the 22nd
-> Arrive early to class and talk to your classmates.
-> Ask your professors for 5 minutes permission to talk about why you are running.
-> Put up approved posters in approved locations.

Voting will be run on Friday the 23rd from 09:30 To 18:30

Dear Western Engineering Students,

Here is a great opportunity for you to get involved with the engineering faculty this summer!

The Engineering Student Societies’ Council of Ontario (ESSCO) is an organization that helps link 15 engineering societies all across Ontario, as well as the Professional Engineers of Ontario (PEO), the Ontario Society of Professional Engineers (OSPE).

This year ESSCO is hosting their Annual General Meeting, AGM, at the University of Ontario Institute of Technology from May 26-29th. We are looking for students who are interested in representing Western at this conference. It is a good chance to network with other students from engineering schools across Ontario and learn more about the various engineering organizations.
