Several openings are available for exceptional graduate and undergraduate students who are committed to high quality research and interested in mechatronics, sensing systems, active vision, the use of sensors and computer systems to improve the perceptive capabilities of machines and the design of robotic and mechatronic devices.

A number of different projects are currently active. All projects are interdisciplinary in nature and require a broad range of knowledge and skills. Each project will emphasize the development of real-world systems, realized through working prototypes and experimental systems. It is expected that students, through their work, will be introduced to aspects of mechanical design, software engineering, embedded systems, machine intelligence, sensor technologies and machine vision, among other topics. Thus, motivated students with backgrounds in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, and Systems Engineering and Computer Science are sought. Knowledge of C/C++, Java, Matlab, microcontroller programming, as well as hands-on skills are considered assets.

Unfortunately, due to the large amount of incoming mail regarding the potential opportunities for graduate students, we cannot respond to all expressions of interest. Students holding research scholarships should indicate this in their correspondence, as placements are limited by available funding.

Eligibility for all positions is dependent on acceptance into graduate studies by the Faculty of Graduate Studies and the Department of Mechanical and Materials Engineering or the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering at the University of Western Ontario.
